Flowerhorn cichlid

Amphilophus trimaculatus × Amphilophus citrinellus × Vieja melanurus

No photo yet

The flowerhorn is a hybrid of Central American cichlids developed in Malaysia and Taiwan in the 1990s, famous for its forehead hump (kok), the black body markings that resemble letters, and its intense colours. It does not exist in the wild. Very aggressive and territorial, it does best alone in a large tank and recognises its keeper. Commercial lines (Kamfa, Zhen Zhu, Red Dragon and others) vary a lot, as does fertility: many males of some lines are sterile.
