Swordtail × platy hybrid
Xiphophorus hellerii × Xiphophorus maculatus
No photo yet
Many shop swordtail varieties (red, tuxedo, long-finned) carry crosses with the platy, used to fix colours. The hybrid is fertile and breeds with both parents. For the breeder, the practical consequence is that 'pure' swordtail or platy lines are rare in the trade, and the young of a shop pair can come out with unexpected colours and shapes.
