Hybrid peacock cichlid
Aulonocara × Maylandia
No photo yet
Several shop 'peacocks' — OB peacock, strawberry, dragon blood, artificially coloured forms — are hybrids between peacock cichlids (Aulonocara) and mbuna such as Maylandia, or colour selections across peacock species. They do not exist in Lake Malawi. They are fertile and the female mouthbroods the eggs. For anyone breeding pure lake species, mixing them in the same tank is the most common way to lose a line.
