The blue botia lives in the Mekong, Chao Phraya and Mae Klong basins. Nocturnal, it eats worms, crustaceans, insects and molluscs. It is highly migratory: it moves up and down the Mekong with the floods and spawns in flooded areas at the start of the wet season. Trade fish are bred with hormones. It is sometimes sold dyed blue or purple.
