A goodeid from west-central Mexico, a livebearer. The male has a red-orange tail and develops a hump with age. Instead of a gonopodium, the male has a notched anal fin; the young are born large, nourished by umbilical-cord-like structures. Very hardy, but it may nip other fishes' fins.
