A cichlid endemic to southern Lake Tanganyika, from shallow rocky areas, the only member of its genus. Juveniles can be yellow; adults are dark. The pair spawns in crevices and raises the young together. It eats algae, zooplankton and invertebrates. It reaches 10 centimetres.
