Harlequin rasbora
Trigonostigma heteromorpha
The harlequin rasbora from the Malay Peninsula, Singapore, Sumatra and Borneo lives in forest streams and peat swamps. It eats worms, small crustaceans and insects. It does not scatter its eggs like most cyprinids: it sticks them to the underside of broad leaves. It has been one of the most popular rasboras since the early twentieth century; mass-bred fish are usually less colourful than wild ones.
