White cloud mountain minnow
Tanichthys albonubes
The White Cloud Mountain minnow is native to southern China, near Guangzhou (named after White Cloud Mountain), with a population on Hainan Island. It is nearly extinct in the wild. It lives in slow, clear, vegetated streams and tolerates water down to 5 °C. It eats zooplankton. It scatters its eggs with no parental care. Farm-bred fish are often weak from inbreeding; there are long-finned and golden varieties.
