The spanner barb comes from the Malay Peninsula and the Sunda Islands, such as Borneo. It lives in clear, boulder-strewn mountain streams, especially below waterfalls. It has dark bands forming a 'T'. Omnivorous. It scatters its eggs and abandons them. It reaches 18 centimetres.
