Cherry barb
Puntius titteya
The cherry barb is endemic to Sri Lanka, from shallow, slow, shaded streams with silt and leaf litter. It is now placed in the genus Rohanella. Omnivorous. The male turns red, especially when breeding. It scatters about 200 eggs among plants, which hatch in 1 to 2 days. It is farmed commercially but threatened in the wild by collection and habitat loss.
