The dwarf tiger barb lives in the Mekong, Chao Phraya and Mae Klong basins and the Malay Peninsula, in densely vegetated streams and reservoirs. It eats zooplankton, insect larvae and plants. It is often confused with the tiger barb; the black blotch on its dorsal fin extends onto the body.
