The X-ray tetra from the Amazon, the Orinoco and coastal rivers of the Guianas and Brazil has a translucent body. It lives in calm, densely vegetated waters and eats small invertebrates. Hardy and peaceful, it is ideal for beginners; almost all fish in the trade are farm-bred. It breeds easily. It is the only member of its genus.
