The guppy is native to northeastern South America and the southern Caribbean (Venezuela, Guyana, Trinidad, Barbados and Antigua). It has been released worldwide to fight mosquitoes, often harming native fish. It is one of the most popular aquarium fish, with many bred varieties, and is used in genetics and evolution research. The male is smaller, colourful and has a gonopodium. A livebearer.
