The striped eel catfish is a marine fish, the only catfish living on coral reefs, from the Indo-Pacific; it has also entered the Mediterranean through the Suez Canal. Juveniles form ball-shaped schools of dozens to hundreds of fish. It has highly venomous spines in the dorsal and pectoral fins, with painful, dangerous stings. It reaches about 32 to 35 centimetres.
