Rosy barb
Pethia conchonius
The rosy barb from South Asia (Pakistan to Bangladesh) lives in lakes and fast hill streams. It is one of the hardiest barbs and tolerates cool water. Omnivorous. When breeding the male turns rosy red. It scatters its eggs among plants, with no parental care. There are bred varieties, such as long-finned; crossed with the tiger barb, it produces sterile hybrids.
