Neon tetra
Paracheirodon innesi
The neon tetra is one of the most widely kept aquarium fish in the world. Native to the western and northern Amazon basin (Colombia, Peru and Brazil), it lives in blackwater or clearwater streams, never in muddy whitewater rivers. Most of the trade is farm-bred, chiefly in Southeast Asia, and there are varieties such as albino and gold. The female is rounder.
