Freshwater butterflyfish
Pantodon buchholzi
No photo yet
The African butterflyfish from the Niger and Congo basins lives at the surface of calm waters — swamps, creeks and backwaters. It leaps powerfully out of the water to catch insects or escape predators. It eats mainly insects, as well as crustaceans and small fish. It can be aggressive towards other surface fish. Its eggs float.
