An eel loach from Southeast Asia (Mekong, Chao Phraya, Malay Peninsula, Sumatra and Borneo), from still or slow waters, where it spends much time buried in sand or mud. It eats small bottom invertebrates. It spawns in shallow, densely vegetated flooded areas. It is valued as food in parts of Thailand and seldom appears in the hobby.
