The giant gourami from Southeast Asia lives in vegetated swamps, lakes and rivers and moves into flooded forest. It is an important food fish, farmed and introduced to many countries. Omnivorous, it eats aquatic plants, fish, frogs, worms and even dead animals. It breathes air and can survive a long time out of water if kept moist.
