A cichlid from southeastern Lake Tanganyika, from shallow rocky shores down to about 10 metres, where it always keeps close to the bottom. Its elongated body has about ten dark vertical bars. It eats small bottom invertebrates. It lives in pairs and spawns in caves and crevices; the territory is defended aggressively. It reaches about 10 centimetres.
