A dwarf cichlid from Guyana and Suriname, from the Aruka to the Maroni River, that lives in coastal flooded savannas. It eats worms, crustaceans and insects. The male is larger, more colourful and has longer fins. Popular and easy to breed; trade fish are farm-bred.
