The redhook silver dollar from the Amazon and Orinoco basins and the Guianas has a red anal fin. It schools in calm river stretches under overhanging bank vegetation and eats leaves. It is peaceful, but its strong teeth can inflict serious bites. Captive breeding has not been recorded.
