An elephantfish from eastern and southern Africa — the Zambezi, Lakes Malawi and Tanganyika and Tanzanian rivers — from deep, quiet waters with muddy bottoms. It has a long snout. Nocturnal, it hunts using an electric field and can give a mild shock. It eats weeds, insects and small animals. It reaches 75 centimetres.
