Pond loach
Misgurnus anguillicaudatus
No photo yet
The pond loach is native to East Asia (Siberia, Korea, Japan, China and northern Vietnam) and has been introduced to many countries through the aquarium trade. It lives in slow waters with muddy bottoms, where it burrows, and eats insect larvae, worms and small crustaceans. Very hardy, it tolerates oxygen-poor water. It reaches 28 centimetres; the female is larger. In Japan there are all-female populations that reproduce by cloning.
