The red terror is a large cichlid from the Pacific coastal rivers, from the Esmeraldas River (Ecuador) to the Tumbes River (Peru). The sexes differ strongly: the female is red or orange with bold black bars; the larger male is greenish-yellow with blue-green spots. Aggressive. Males exceed 30 centimetres.
