A small gourami endemic to Sri Lanka, from shallow, slow, forest-shaded streams with leaf litter and marginal vegetation. It eats plankton, insect larvae and fish fry. Very shy. The male, larger and more colourful, builds a hidden bubble nest. It is endangered.
