The banded leporinus, yellow with vertical black bands, comes from the Amazon basin, from fast waters, and moves into flooded forest in the wet season. Omnivorous, it eats plants, worms, crustaceans and even fish. It reaches 30 centimetres and matures at about 15. The female is larger.
