A pleco from the coastal rivers of the Guianas, from the Oyapock to the Suriname River. It lives in the lower reaches of rivers up to the brackish limit and is very abundant in estuaries, among dead trunks and flooded vegetation. It uses its stomach to breathe air. It eats mainly algae. It reaches 25 centimetres.
