Herichthys cyanoguttatus
No photo yet
The Texas cichlid is the only cichlid native to the United States: it lives in the lower Rio Grande basin in Texas and northeastern Mexico, and has been introduced elsewhere. It eats invertebrates and plant matter. The male is larger and may develop a nuchal hump. Very territorial; the pair spawns on rocks and defends the young aggressively.
