River hatchetfish

The common hatchetfish from the Amazon and Orinoco basins and the Guianas lives in groups at the surface of slow creeks and swamps with floating vegetation, and even catches flying insects — it leaps out of the water. Females are larger. Captive breeding has not been recorded.
