The mummichog is a killifish from the Atlantic coast of North America, from salt marshes, tidal creeks and estuaries, entering fresh water only a little. Very hardy, it withstands wide swings in salinity and temperature and low-oxygen water. It has been introduced to the Iberian Peninsula. It is usually 7.5 to 9 centimetres, with a maximum of 15.
