A goby cichlid endemic to Lake Tanganyika that lives in the surf zone of rocky shores, in shallow, turbulent, highly oxygenated water, scraping algae from the rocks. Territorial, especially towards its own kind. Both parents mouthbrood: the female carries the eggs first, then passes the fry to the male.
