The glass knifefish is an electric knifefish from South America, from the Magdalena and Orinoco rivers to the Río de la Plata. Shy and nocturnal, it prefers deep still waters with bottoms full of plant debris. It produces a weak electric field with an organ in its tail. Males reach 45 centimetres; females about 20.
