A fish from the Congo basin and Lake Tanganyika, sold small but able to reach 75 centimetres. Juveniles are reddish-yellow with six dark bands, which fade with age. It shoals in the deeper layers of rivers and lakes and eats worms, crustaceans, insects and plants. It becomes aggressive as it matures and does not suit an ordinary community tank.
