The wrestling halfbeak from Southeast Asia has an elongated lower jaw and feeds at the surface, mainly on insects. It is a livebearer. Males fight by locking jaws — in its native range they are used in betting fights — and have a red patch on the dorsal fin. It lives in slow or still waters with surface vegetation, sometimes brackish.
