The Alaska blackfish lives in Alaska, the Bering Sea islands and northeastern Siberia, in heavily vegetated swamps and ponds. It breathes air through its oesophagus and is extremely cold-tolerant, surviving even partial freezing of its body. It reaches 33 centimetres.
