The Siamese algae-eater comes from Southeast Asia, from clear streams and rivers. It lives near the bottom and feeds by grazing the film of algae and micro-organisms. It has a black stripe from the snout to the tip of the tail. It is famous for eating 'black brush' red algae. It lives in small schools and can live over 10 years. Several similar species are sold under this name.
