Amazon puffer
Colomesus asellus
No photo yet
The Amazon puffer from the Amazon, Essequibo and Orinoco basins lives in fresh water and tolerates slightly brackish water. Unlike most puffers it is not territorial and becomes nervous when kept alone. Its teeth grow continuously: it needs snails and other hard foods. It spawns in rivers during the floods and the larvae drift downstream, which makes aquarium breeding almost impossible.
