Black acara
Cichlasoma bimaculatum
No photo yet
The black acara comes from South America — the Orinoco, Essequibo and Branco basins. It lives in canals, ditches and swamps with still water. Omnivorous. The pair spawns on the substrate and cares for the eggs and fry. It has been introduced to Florida. Linnaeus described it as if it came from the Mediterranean, an error.
