The speckled peacock bass is the largest cichlid in the Americas, nearly one metre, from the Orinoco and Rio Negro basins and rivers of the central Amazon. It lives in lagoons and along sandy or rocky riverbanks and eats mainly small fish. Introduction attempts in Florida and Texas did not take hold.
