Silver barb

The silver barb (tawes) is farmed as a food fish in Southeast Asia and can exceed 40 centimetres. It eats mainly plants and some invertebrates. In the wet season it moves from rivers into canals and flooded areas. Escapees from farms have established populations on several islands.
